Artichokes

I live in Ohio and I would like to grow artichokes from seeds. What variety is the best to grow in this region? And when is the best time to plant the seeds?

We start our seeds down here in Alabama in December in our greenhouses.
They have to grow for some time, about 2-3 weeks, where temperatures are below 35 degrees at night. Artichokes also take about 90-100 days to maturity after transplant so you need to get them in really early, before your last frost in order to have time to grow them.

Our plants are an Imperial Star type which have the shortest season we could find.
