Our website redesign is finally complete, along with our new catalog for 2009!  Every year we spend the fall months getting ready for next spring and choosing our varieties, planning and working on the web site to make it easier to use and hopefully to be less confusing.  We feel that this year we have made some nice cosmetic changes and navigational rearranging to help you find what you need, right away.  With a new logo redesign that shows our actual garden and added access to our blog entries incorporated into the home page.  We hope you like what you see.  There are also more helpful videos being added every day, look for them on our Tasteful Kitchen page and coming soon to our Growing Tips pages.

We have some really nice new selections of tomatoes such as Paul Robeson which are a dark reddish purple color and so full of flavor, many say it rivals Cherokee purple for taste.  Another new one is our Kosovo Oxheart tomato which we have gotten several requests for and hope you will try.  Oxhearts are some of the oldest tomato varieties and with good reason, they are so spectacularly sweet and meaty! You will absolutely love them. New peppers have been added, and a few new varieties of vegetables such as Little Fingers cucumbers and Zephyr summer squash are fun to grow and easy too!

Our new tomato, pepper and vegetable varieties are now online and available to preorder.  Our prices remain the same as last year and our shipping has stayed the same price as well. This year, for the first time, we are also offering a quantity discount on our tomato plants.  Order 10 plants for a 5% discount, order 20 and get a 7.5% discount, and 40 or more will get a 10% discount.  Keep in mind that when you place an order for 1 to 6 plants shipping costs stay about the same because of carrier minimum prices. For additional plants, the shipping goes up only slightly based upon weight.  If you want to see your estimated shipping charges, just click on the link in the shopping cart view.

Check out our category Garden Supplies & Tools for lots of exciting new items for Spring.  We are offering Earth Boxes and Hanging Brackets for baskets and great garden hats too.  Our large container planter combo comes with everything you need for a nice big pot full of tomatoes!

Plan for Artichokes and Asparagus now! Strawberries and Onions too! Get ready to grow something new this year with these early season crops.

Artichokes are perfect for warm, long season areas, or grow them with a bit of shelter. If you have at least 100 frost-free days in your area which most of the country does, you can grow them! Keep in mind that Artichokes will freeze so if you don't have a greenhouse to keep them in, you will have to bring the young plants indoors until after all danger of frost has passed. They will produce best in coastal areas and zones 6-10. Note! These plants are only available for shipping in March!

The classic Jersey Giant Asparagus is the best flavored asparagus for backyards growing large stalks with sweet flavor. These asparagus plants are perennial and can continue to produce for up to 20 years! Best planted in early spring. These are shipped bare root crowns in bundles of 25. Ready to ship anytime after February 9th but keep in mind that these sell out early so preordering is the best way to guarantee you will get them.

Strawberry plants need early planting!  Our variety, "Sparkle", has great flavor and nice dark red flesh.  Strawberries will ship bare root in bundles of 25. Keep in mind that Strawberries are frost tolerant and should be planted in early spring. Ours will ship anytime after February 16th.  Strawberry plants can keep producing fruits for five or six years!

Onions also need to plant early and you should choose the correct variety for your part of the country so select "Short Day" or "Long Day" bulbs so you get the onions which will develop its bulb during that time of the year.  Here in the south, we plant in February, up north generally you will plant as late as April.  Our onions are sold as plants bundled into bunches of about 40-60 plants.  We also have Leeks & Cippolini onions!

Please take time off this month to really enjoy the season.  Drive around to see the lights, play in the snow, do some caroling, or just star gaze on a cold night around a fire.  Savor the season and have a truly happy holiday!
