Our bean plants are in large 4.5" pots and are seeded with 3-4 seeds per pot. They can be planted in a clump in the ground or a container without separating them. Each plant will produce several handfuls of beautiful slender beans through the season.
Allow at least 18 inches in diameter per plant. Bush type beans and soybeans will grow without supports but will all be ready to harvest at the same time. They grow approximately knee high and then flower and produce their beans.
Always water low to the ground once or twice a week and never use sprinklers to water your vegetable garden. Beans have shallow roots so using mulch on top of the soil can help hold moisture in and keep weeds down. Beans are ready to harvest about 2 weeks after they bloom. Pick frequently to prevent beans from getting too starchy. Eat them as quickly as possible or freeze if necessary.
