Black Krim

SKU: 1207 Available to ship: Feb 27, 2012 - Jun 4, 2012
The Black Krim Heirloom tomato is dark brownish-red colored with a rich, sweet flavor. Large size fruit sets well and the color gets darker in hot sunny weather. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that this is a favorite among many of our customers. This heavy producer is an heirloom from the Black Sea of Russia. 75-90 days

"Fantastic black tomato but pruning is critical to production"

gof sides on 3/28/2011

Comments: Of all my black tomatoes, the Krim was the only one which didn't drop all it's blooms during the August heat waves of central Alabama. The downside is that this variety must be pruned quite assiduously and regularly to get good fruit production. I was shocked how often I had to pinch suckers from this plant. And be forewarned - the more you prune it the more it wants to bush out. HOWEVER - my heavily pruned plant (I kept to only three primary vines), resulted in a nice harvest of 2-5 tomatoes pe... More details

"Tasty, not the best producer"

ATL grower on 2/12/2011

Comments: I was very excited to grow these last year as I had read such rave reviews about the taste. I grew them in a self watering container here in ATL and had very bad luck with them. Poor production, lots of cracking, and some sort of disease. I did manage to grow two that made it to maturity without issue and they were, indeed, delicious. I am going to try again this year and see if I can't do better.

"Black Krim...A Favorite"

Michele on 2/25/2010

Comments: I grew three plants - in Massachusetts - they did very well and produced quite a lot the end of August beginning of September. Large tomatoes with heirloom flavor that need nothing added to them! Black Krim are best served sliced with a little sea salt, or cut up with cucumbers and sweet onion as a salad!

"Black Krim Review"

Brad on 10/10/2008

Comments: For starters, what the black krim lacks in quantity, it definitely makes up for in quality! This guy has proven to be incredibly hardy in Chicago, IL - simply delicious, large tomatoes that don't need anything but a knife to be enjoyed! I was a little disappointed with the production quantity - averaged about 1 every 2 wks, but man, was it delicious!
