Cherokee Purple

SKU: 1214 Available to ship: Jun 3, 2013 - Jun 5, 2013
Cherokee Purple is one of the best tomatoes we have ever tasted! This tomato will convince you to grow Heirloom varieties. They are from the Tennessee Cherokee Indians, discovered over 100 years ago and have a thin skin and soft texture. When fully ripened they have dark reddish-purple color, full acidity and rich, old fashioned, sweet flavor. Make sure to mulch for best results and hold back on the watering. Our best results were during a 8 week drought with minimal drip watering. 80 days

"Amazing"

Bob McCauley on 3/9/2013

Comments: This is a pretty tomato on the vine. It was one of the three best tomatoes I grew last year. Estiva, Peacevine and Cherokee Purple have excellent taste and prolific yields. Will be buying more this year. You will not be disappointed growing this in New Jersey!!

"YUM Cherokee Purple"

Comments: This is probably the all round household favorite, and I've introduced some of my friends and family to "what? purple tomatoes?!" Goes great just sliced on buttered toast...

"Simply The Best!"

Steven on 1/6/2011

Comments: This is the tomato that got me into gardening and into heirloom tomatoes. My mother bought one of these "weird" looking tomatoes about 6 years ago and we made sandwiches with it on toast, just mayo, salt and pepper. I was hooked. It is by far the best tasting tomato ever. I searched all over and found it here and have been a customer ever since. Some years they grow better than others but they are always worth the effort. I can't wait for Spring!

My Rating Is:

"There is No Substitute for Cherokee Purple !"

Michele on 2/25/2010

Comments: Cherokee Purple have got to be one of the best heirloom tomatoes! Of all the "black" tomatoes, these have the best flavor and a good producer. I had no problems growing plenty of tomatoes in Massachusetts, and it was a VERY rainy season in 2009. I had a prolific season with these plants while many others around me lost theirs. Thank you Tasteful Garden!

"Delicious"

Laura on 9/19/2008

Comments: they were a bit tough to grow this year with all of the rain but fabulous as usual if you have not tried them do!
